System Preferences
This article will guide you through the system’s preferences and available settings. You should access this screen immediately after installing the cold vault to perform the initial system configuration.

System Currency
The fiat currency that was selected for the system at system initialization can be seen under “System Currency”.
Sync Clock
Networked computers keep their time synchronized using an internet clock. They have a clock chip that keeps time between synchronizations and while the system is shut down. However, most networked computers regularly check an online clock to calibrate their internal clocks.
Your Cold Vault cannot access the internet, so it cannot check its own clock against a global standard. It does, however, time-stamp the information it transmits to the rest of the Custody Infrastructure system and, by extension, to the blockchain.
The MPC, on the other hand, keeps its clock synced via the Internet. By checking the Cold Vault's timestamps against its own time clock, the MPC can see if the Cold Vault's clock becomes out of sync with the rest of the system.
When the MPC detects that the Cold Vault is out of sync with the actual time, it sends notifications to the desktop and mobile apps.
Synchronization Procedure
An admin must perform the Cold Vault clock sync as it involves changing the system preferences.
Open the System Preferences on the Cold Vault and click Sync Clock.
Check the Proxy machine. There will be a notification at the top of the desktop app indicating how many seconds off the Cold Vault is:

Input the number of seconds indicated into the Cold Vault Set the Time Difference popup, and click update.
After verification, the Cold Vault sleeps for the input number of seconds. During this time, its clock stays frozen. When the Cold Vault wakes, the clock will be in sync with the rest of the solution.
AML - Anti-money laundering
Select whether your organization will use internal AML processes or utilize Chainalysis to assess transaction risk. Internal AML allows you to exercise manual AML control over inbound transactions only; external AML utilizes automated inspection and enforcement of both inbound and outbound transactions.
Activating external AML requires at least one user to be assigned to a role that includes compliance management permissions. See Roles for details about compliance management permissions.
For more information about how AML checks operate on the Custody Infrastructure platform, see Anti-Money Laundering.
Using the Chainalysis service requires a Chainalysis API key. For more information, go to https://www.chainalysis.com/.
Cold Vault Total Weekly Withdrawals Limits
Managing withdrawal limits at the Cold Vault level involves a few key considerations. Here’s a simplified breakdown:
- Rolling Window Limit: The weekly limit operates as a rolling window, covering the past seven days. It applies to all users across different roles within the Cold Vault.
- Counting Cold Transactions: Only cold transactions contribute to the global total weekly withdrawal limit.
- Options When the Limit Is Reached:
- Wait: Allow some amounts to clear from the limit (remember, it looks back 7 days).
- Set a New Limit: Once the relevant approval session is completed, you can establish a fresh withdrawal limit.
Remember, these limits help maintain security and control while ensuring efficient operations.
MPC Driven Mode
MPC Driven Mode allows users to set roles, groups, policies, etc. in the MPC instead of the cold vault. See Cold-driven vs. MPC-driven Modes for more information.
Transaction Approval Timeout
These settings determine how long the system waits for complete approval. If a transaction isn’t fully approved within this timeframe, it reaches a timeout and gets canceled. The cold vault and MPC have individually configurable timeouts.

Required Password Format
Setting a password policy is done by setting how many characters of each category are required in a password, where zero means none needed and 5 means a minimum of 5 characters from that specific category.
